Lot 1358 SPAIN, Seville, gold milled 8 escudos, Philip V, 1711 M, 8-S-8-M, rare, NGC AU details / rev cleaned

SPAIN, Seville, gold milled 8 escudos, Philip V, 1711 M, 8-S-8-M, rare, NGC AU details / rev cleaned, finest and only example in NGC census. Cal-2280; KM-260; Fr-247. 26.93 grams. Well-centered strike with full rims, sharp details except for an area of lower-pressure strike at 6-9 o'clock on the shield side and 3-6 on the cross side, rich gold color with strong die-polish lines and slightly granular finish (faint hairlines on just the high points on reverse), rare as a clean date (more often encountered as 1711/0), also as a variety with elements inside tressure dimples in a different order than usual (8-S-8-M versus M-8-S-8), not noted by NGC but probably of interest to the specialist.
